Academics

Welcome to the HCI students corner

This special student oriented area of our website gives you all information you need in order to decide whether HCI offers lectures and research opportunities according to your personal interests or capabilities.

Visiting some of our current lectures is the most common way to get in touch with HCI and our workgroup. If you enjoy reading and learning HCI, you can easily schedule a mentor conversation with us, in order to arrange your academic alignment with respect to HCI as your core discipline.

Choosing HCI as major subject in your studies may (Master Students) or must (Bachelor Students) be followed by comitting to the according practical course. In our practical courses we offer you the chance to take part in several interesting and competitive projects. An overview of the current Bachelor- and Masterprojects is available for download.

YouTube Channel: Student Projects

You will be fully integrated in our project work: Taking part in regularly scheduled meetings and joning us in visiting e.g. our industrial research partners.

Due to the additional connectivity to public utilities such as the library of the university of Konstanz, you have a broad choice of highly relevant themes for a HCI based Bachelor or Master thesis.

Fredrik Gundelsweiler's experience with HCI Fredrik Gundelsweiler

Fredrik Gundelsweiler

In changed my course of studies from Technical Informatics at the FH Konstanz to Information Engineering at the University of Konstanz because it offered an interdisciplinary orientation. The student should become qualified as a kind of mediator between technicians/programmers, management staff and other stakeholders. At the university I visited courses with technical orientation as well as courses about economy, law and management. In the 4th semester I came into contact with human-computer interaction (HCI) by a course I had to pass. At first I was a bit reserved but then I got interested in the course topics more and more. Especially the development of user-friendly Software and the design of user interfaces were my main interests. Additionally the internet and the design of websites regarding usability principles play a big role in the field of HCI. Therefore I visited some more courses about HCI like Web Usability Engineering. At the beginning of the 5th semester I decided to do my final paper at the HCI chair of Prof. Dr. H. Reiterer. This decision led to my involvement in the research project INVISIP (Information Visualization for Site Planning) concering a visual seeking system. I developed the data model and my own visualization (a scatterplot) within the project. I took profit from my Software Engineering knowledge and extended my programming experiences in Java. As early I became a Bachelor student I worked on different projects as HIWI. By now I am a scientific employee at the University of Konstanz working on the research project BEST in cooperation with DaimlerChrysler.
